You get a kit and you work of pellets of plywood. I have seen children of all ages do it. It ia self paced and parental help is necessary. So any age can do it if mom/dad has patience. The first time Kate used a hammer, she was three years old.
All kids get to keep their project, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. Children must be present at the store to participate in the workshop and receive the kit, apron, and pin. Beginning Saturday, May 7th, The Home Depot’s Kids Workshops will return to in-store programming in U.S. stores. The workshops will take place on the first Saturday of each month, offering families an opportunity to complete DIY-projects together.

I looked on their website and it looks like in many areas they have discontinued the kids workshops. 🙁 I can’t find anything on their website. And the birthday party kit is discontinued. They have only a couple workshop kits listed too. 🙁 Wonder why they discontinued the kid workshops, they were always packed when we went. Children must be present to receive a kit .
Our Home Depot knows my husband so well that when they have the kits, one of the employees always gives him 3 for our girls to do at home. I’ve heard many Home Depots will give you that month’s kit if you ask at customer service. Even if you cannot make it to the Free Kids’ Workshops, HomeDepot.com offers great kids’ activities videos and how-to’s right on their website. With any free in-store event, it’s always best to call and confirm participation before going. Things have definitely changed with the current state of our world.

Most local events & activities have been POSTPONED or CANCELED to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

Was looking for something to do with them that was for boys. We all spend time together and they learn good skills. My 7 yr old is autistic and he still enjoys most parts of it himself. Lowe’s used to do it as well every other week.

You can bring in any age we like that. Does anyone have Home Depot workshop kit project info from the years 2015, 2014, and 2013? My daughters attended some back then and I’ve been trying to put the pins in order by month and year but can’t remember the order of them.
I take my down syndrome 18 year old And he loves the projects. He is on a first name basis with many in the store. I have a 10 year old boy, and we’ve been going since he was about 2 1/2 – 3. He loves making the probjects, and while he doesn’t need my help anymore it is still fun to get out and do. He actually looks forward to them each month, and remembers that they are always the first Saturday.

Her parents brought her to a Kids Workshop at The Home Depot in Madison, Alabama, and they’ve been back almost every month since. The project kits are only available while supplies last. The Home Depot Kids Workshop is for children ages 5-12. An adult will need to stay with the child during the entirety of the Home Depot Kids Workshop. You will need to pre-register for these events and sometimes they fill up so register as early as possible.

It’s a time to hang out with you child more.
As long as you are able to help them it shouldn’t matter. Maybe just call and ask first at your local store. There was one free kids’ workshops at The Home Depot in December.

My girls are 8 and 6 and we have been going for years. My siblings will also bring their kids and we make a family event out of it. I wish my girls would still let me help, but not anymore. I completely understand your frustration, Kay…and frankly, I agree with it.

The workshop is easy to find, just follow the sounds of hammering – usually in the supply section adjacent to the garden center – and the buzzing of children hard at work. I see little bitty kid’s building projects at our store also adults with disabilities who the age does not apply to.
I would so love it if you could make these workshops the first and second saturday of the month. I work every other weekend, so I can only get my grandkids there on some months and not others. While I have not seen free kids’ workshops via livestream yet, I’m hoping Home Depot will add content like this soon. The workshops are designed for children ages 5-12, but all ages are welcome. Workshop attendees have to be accompanied by an adult at all times. The workshop generally runs from 9 a.m.
